WANT TO SING WITH US?
*****PLEASE NOTE: Due to the pandemic, not all of the information below is current. However, we do plan to have a fall term 2020 of meetings and rehearsal by Zoom, and will be asking people to pay a reduced dues amount to help pay for our professional staff who will still be with us even if not in person. The Zoom meetings probably will not last a full two hours. Please watch this site for details as they are made final.*****
The Mad River Chorale is a community chorus, drawing members from all over Central Vermont. Singers of all ages are welcome, whether new to choral singing, experienced, or returning to singing after an absence. We do not have auditions, though our conductor may check your range, tone, and music skills to know you better. We ask that you be able to match pitch, hold your part, and be willing to spend some time outside rehearsal learning your music. The ability to sight-read is not required, but it will be important (and fun) to learn the rudiments of reading music along with us.
Each season, we are happy to provide support to our singers at no extra cost to make it possible to practice at home, or even in the car, with practice CDs, MIDI files, computer programs and pronunciation guidance.
We rehearse Mondays 7:00-9:00 pm in the Chorus Room at Harwood Union High School, Route 100 in Duxbury. Rehearsals for the Spring 2019 term begin on Monday, February 4. Please arrive by 6:30 that evening to register and receive your music. After that, please arrive by 6:50 to sign in and be ready to sing at 7:00. Concerts are scheduled for Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5.
Mad River Chorale dues are $75 per concert season. (MRC is a 501(c)(3) organization and dues may be tax deductible. Consult your tax professional for guidance.) In 2007 this amount was voted in by the singers, and we are happy to say it has remained unchanged ever since. Most seasons our dues, plus ticket sales from our concerts, are sufficient to cover the cost of our professional conductor and professional accompanist. Other expenses are covered by fund-raising.
If dues are a strain on your budget, please be aware that we have never turned away someone who wants to sing with us. We welcome those who have concerns to contact any board member to find out more, so some kind of accommodation can be arranged. We have a long tradition of insuring that all who wish to participate can do so!
